Salary:  $20.08/Hourly
 

Summary of Position Functions: 

Responsible for center meals, establishing the menus and determining quantities of food to serve.

 

Shift: 9:00am-6:30pm and 1 weekend day, plus Holidays. 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quantities of food according to the menu and the number of students/staffs, in accordance with local, state, and national food safety regulations.
  • Ensure the proper set-up of food items on the serving lines as directed by the Senior Cook.
  • Assist in serving meals.
  • Adheres to all state guidelines concerning food safety and proper food handling procedures and cleans assigned areas.
  • Sets up and helps serve food items on the serving lines.
  • Responsible for daily production sheets for food preparation, pull sheets, and inventory control.
  • Maintains inventory of food items and requests additional food as necessary.
  • Assists in cleaning, maintaining, and stocking the kitchen, lines, and dining areas.
  • Reports unsafe, and unsanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining areas. 
  • Ensures left over food is properly handled, labeled, and stored.
  • Supervises and assists culinary arts and work-based learning students in proper food preparation, handling, and storage. Directs work of the students who are assigned to server on the food lines. 

 

Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees will perform other related duties to meet the organization's ongoing needs. 

 

Skills & Competencies: 

  • Knowledge of safety and sanitization requirements in food preparation and storage. 
  • Knowledge of methods of preparing cooking and serving food.
  • Proven ability to plan and sequence the timing of food and preparation of tasks.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Proficient using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. 

 

Educational Requirements & Experiences:

  • High School Diploma, or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • 2-years of work-related experience in a cafeteria, or Food Service Setting  
  • Must be Safe Serve Certified of have the ability to become certified 
  • Must possess a Valid NYS Driver's License with an acceptable driving record 
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

Physical Activities:

  • Reading, writing, and communicating fluently in English
  • Hearing and speaking to express ideas and, or exchange information in person, or over the telephone
  • Seeing to read labels, posters, documents, PC Screens, etc. 
  • Sitting, standing, moving about, or walking for occasional, or frequent periods
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment
  • Kneeling, and bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead 
  • Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and, or lifting light objects

 

Working Conditions:

  • Campus and Cafeteria setting
  • Indoor and outdoor environment 
  • Exposure to heat from ovens, burners, and steam trays
  • Moderate exposure to fumes, smoke, or gasses, solvents, greases, or oils
  • Exposure to cutting and slicing equipment and other machines with moving parts
  • Exposure to moderate to high noise levels from kitchen equipment and students at mealtimes
  • May be required to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends
