2020 - Cybersecurity and NYS SHIELD ACT Lunch and Learn
You’re Invited to a complimentary Cybersecurity and NYS SHIELD ACT Lunch and Learn [EVENT]
There have been some recent changes to New York legislation that will soon have an effect on your business that you need to be aware of.
Directive and the Otsego County Chamber are hosting a Lunch & Learn event on March 5th at 11:30 am to educate area businesses on the upcoming changes the "Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security" (SHIELD) Act will require, and the necessary steps that need to be taken so your business is prepared for when the SHIELD Act goes into effect on March 21, 2020.
Last year $600,000,000 in fines were collected, and they have promised to be more aggressive when it comes to compliance. With fines increasing from $100,000 to $250,000 per incident no business can afford to not take the steps to keep information safe.
The SHIELD Act will require all New York businesses:
- Set up a "data security program" to monitor and improve cybersecurity.
- Implement "reasonable safeguards" to ensure that private information is stored and erased safely.
- Notify their customers of data breaches.
Join us at the Foothills Performance Center for this educational presentation and enjoy lunch while you learn more about protecting your business data and your customer’s and employee’s personal information.
